Chemical Peeling

Indications

Chemical peeling is the removal of a superficial layer of skin, with the help of a chemical, to remove scars and signs of aging and to rejuvenate the skin. The chemical peels used today are mainly solutions of phenol, trichloroacetic acid and alphahydroxy acids (AHA) at various densities. Deep peeling is achieved with phenol and trichloroacetic acid, while the hydroxy acids are intended for light, superficial skin renewal. The chemical peels, when applied to the skin, causes a controlled surface chemical burn that results in the necrosis and apoptosis of a thin surface layer of skin. With it are removed the discoloration, the old spots, the panicles, the subtle wrinkles, the acne scars, the small post-traumatic scars and the aged, colorless skin.

Chemical peeling process

At the first visit, the doctor is given special skin care creams containing retinoids and hydroquinone and applied daily for 1-3 weeks prior to treatment. Chemical peeling is done in a medical office. Anesthesia is not necessary. Usually, it is enough to take an oral sedative and painkiller 1-2 hours before surgery. If deep peeling is needed in a specific area of the face, localized regional anesthesia may be required. However, in some cases widespread application of phenol peeling requires drowsiness (drunkenness). The chemical peeling is applied to the treated area with a cotton swab. Allow to work for a specific time, usually 5-15 minutes, depending on the density of the substance, the desired depth of peeling and the tolerance of the woman. Then the antidote to the substance, in the form of a solution or cream, is applied, which neutralizes the active chemical and stops its action. In the case of persistent deep lesions, it may be necessary to repeat the peeling 4-6 months later.

Post-operative care

The burning sensation of the first 2-3 hours is treated with cold compresses. Anti-inflammatory and soothing ointments are necessary. The crust, usually formed at the points of application of the chemical, is peeled off in 10-15 days and the underlying skin is reddish-pink. The color of the new skin is gradually restored over the next 2-3 months. During this time, it is recommended to cover it with make up or special camouflage creams. Sun exposure is not allowed for 6 months. During this time it is necessary to use sunscreen with a high protection index.

Your new look

Improvements from AHA peeling can be very discreet at first. You may notice that your skin looks healthier. With continuous treatments, you will notice a general improvement in the texture of your skin. The results of TCA peeling are usually not as long as those of phenol peeling. However, your skin will be much smoother and cooler. If you are planning to undergo phenol peeling, you can expect a dramatic improvement in your skin surface - less fine wrinkles, fewer spots and even skin tone. Your results will last, though they will not be left untouched by the effects of aging and sun exposure.
